The whole purpose of Calder Cares 4 Ukraine is to harness the kindness of our community to support Ukrainians arriving in our valley, and those offering their homes to them through the Homes for Ukraine scheme.

This page offers some key information and signposts to find support locally. You can also explore our guides and links for practical information relevant to new arrivals in the UK.

If you can’t find what you are looking for, please post on our forum, ask on our facebook group or contact us and we will connect you with the help you need.

Calderdale Council

Our local council have a responsibility (and funding) to care for every guest arriving here from Ukraine, and this is put into action once a visa application is made. Their role includes DBS and home checks on sponsors, the support of a social worker, provision of an initial £200 payment to each guest.

They can also offer support with mental health, employment, school places, healthcare and funding required items such as furniture, and would be responsible for housing in the event of a hosting arrangement not working out.

Ukrainian community in Calderdale

There is already an established Ukrainian community in Calderdale, as well as individuals living in the upper Calder Valley, several of whom are part of Calder Cares 4 Ukraine.
